Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

X-Lab is a space for exploration and experimentation, loca­ted at the LTH campus. At X-Lab, you will find a makerspace with tools, facilities, and know-how to support your creative endeavor.

The X-Lab is usually open from Sunday to Thursday from 13:00 to 18:00.

We are closed on Fridays, Saturdays, public holidays and examination periods. Please follow our website for curent opening hours!

 

 

We have a range of tools for making and prototyping, including 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing machines, electronics and wood working tools. See here for a list of tools.

If you are a student at Lund university, you can sign up to the X-Lab course in Canvas and visit the page “Tools and instructions” for further information.

 

  • Everyone at LU and LTH (Students and employees) is welcome, regardless of previous knowledge, study program or department. Use of the makerspace is free, except for materials, which you buy here.
  • You can use the X-Lab makerspace even if you are an absolute beginner – we are here to help and will provide instructions and support to get you started.

No, we don't have insurance that covers third parties such as the general public, so unfortunately that's not possible. Please check other makerspaces which are open to the public (Lund, Malmö).

Use of the makerspace is free for LU students and employees, except for materials, whichcan be purchased at X-Lab.

As a visitor who is not a student or an employee at Lund University, you are welcome to contact us for inquiries and for a visit to X-Lab

Upon arrangement, we offer special events and sessions such as renting the makerspace for specific projects, exploring and discovering new ways for prototyping, and running creative team-building sessions with you and your colleagues. Our staff helps to put together and run an exciting program.

General use of X-Lab, such as occasional visits for using our makerspace, is not possible due to insurance regulations.

 

There are some basic materials for sale available at X-Lab that you can use. Price list is available on site or in Canvas.

  • Plywood
  • Mdf
  • Plexiglass
  • Fabric
  • Leather
  • 3D-printing filament (PLA and PETG)

Consumables like sewing thread, screws and nuts are free of charge.

You may be able to use your own material, but first you need to check that the material is safe to use at X-Lab. You need to get permission from our staff before using it and may need to bring material specifications if type of material type and quality is not clear.

  1. Payments can be made using Swish.
  2. If you do not have Swish you can pay by card (Visa and Mastercard) through our payment system. Link (QR-code) to the payment system is provided on site.

If you need a receipt for the material you purchased at X-Lab, please contact Hajnalka Bodnar who can issue a receipt to you.

To use the woodworking tools, you first need to take the Safety Course. As a student or employee, you can sign up to the Safety Course via Canvas.

Students and employees of Lund University are welcome to attend our activities free of charge. Please visit the calendar for upcoming activities.

Students and employees of LU/LTH are welcome to our activities free of charge.

In most cases you do not need to register, just show up!

However, there are some activities (like our workshops) where the number of participants is limited. Therefore you must sign up advance. Registration takes place via Canvas.

Our activities can be found in the LU and LTH calendar, in the X-Lab Calendar and on the indoor TV screens at the LTH campus.
